Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
On Monday morning, a bus and a toto collided head-on on National Highway 117 near Kanpur in the Diamond Harbour area of South 24 Parganas. The accident resulted in the toto being completely destroyed and the toto driver sustaining serious injuries. Passengers on the bus suffered only minor injuries. The bus involved was the Diamond Harbour rural M-10 service traveling from Raydighi towards Diamond Harbour.
According to local sources, the collision occurred when the bus attempted to give way to the toto coming from the opposite direction. Both vehicles suddenly lost control, causing the bus to hit a roadside guardwall before crashing into the toto. The toto was carrying fodder fish and was headed towards Hatuganj. The driver and passengers of the toto jumped out to avoid injury just before the collision.
The impact of the crash completely demolished the toto, turning it into debris. Local residents arrived at the scene shortly after the accident and assisted in evacuating the passengers from the bus. Emergency medical help was provided to the seriously injured toto driver and the lightly injured bus passengers.
The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Diamond Harbour police station. Authorities are currently looking into the circumstances that led to the loss of vehicle control. The highway is an important route connecting rural and urban areas within South 24 Parganas.
